Excerpt:
Mac whirled from the window and stormed from his office. “I’ve had enough of this. You’re going to talk to me, and no bullshit about being tired.”
“I talk to you every day.” Lorelei shoved a stack of papers toward him without looking. “Sign these and I’ll get them out. You also have an appointment in the morning for an oil change.”
“Lorelei,” Mac growled.
She spun her chair back toward the computer screen. “I just talked. Now, go away.” She flipped her hand, shooing him away.
Mac jerked her chair back to face him. Her eyes widened at his glower as he leaned over her, punctuating each word. “This. Ends. Now.” Effortlessly, he lifted her from her seat, ignoring her protests, and she landed with an oomph when he tossed her over his shoulder and kicked her office chair away. He tightened his hold to control her wiggles and kicks.
The tip of her shoes pounded his legs and her fists pummeled his back as they passed through the shop. “Put me down, you barbarian!”
“Be still,” he bit out, and slowed to cast a glance around the open bay. “Dutch!”
“Right here.”
Lorelei stilled a moment and her scream
pierced his ear. “Dutch, help me!”
The pop of Mac’s palm on her ass echoed throughout the building. “I said be still, woman. Dutch, lock up for me. The office too. We’re done for the day.”
Dutch chuckled and gave him a nod. “Will do.”
Mac strolled to the stairs and jogged up them easily with her still draped over his shoulder. A quick hesitation at the door as he worked the key and shoved it open.
“This isn’t your apartment. You can’t just barge in,” Lorelei scolded.
He leaned over, setting her on her feet. “I own it; I can use it.”
Lorelei huffed a sigh and crossed her arms. “What do you want?”
“I told you; we’re going to talk.”
“I have nothing to say to you.”
She took one step toward the door, and his arm shot out, circling her waist and pulling her tight as he worked his phone with his free hand. “Tim, I’m closing the garage and crashing on your couch a few hours.”
“No problem. I’m hanging out at the Landing with Brew,” Tim’s voice announced through the speaker.
He tapped the screen and tossed the phone onto the couch before spinning Lorelei from his grip and away from him. “All taken care of.” Raising his booted foot to the arm of the couch, he shoved it, and blocked the door. “Now. Get naked.”
“I will not.”
“Okay, then. I will.” He stripped down to his boxers and fell onto the couch, grabbing the television remote.
“What are you doing?”
“Can’t stay mad if you’re naked. Try it.” He threw his arm behind his head. “Get comfortable.”
“I can last a couple hours.”
“If you don’t start talking by then, I’ll just take you to the clubhouse and lock you in the room there. Up to you.”
She was tempting with her fists to her hips and that scowl of a stare she had pinned on him.
“You wouldn’t.”
“Wanna bet?”
