Surprised by his words, she opened her mouth and let him feed her. When she started to ask a question, he stopped her.
“Chew. Then talk.” Knox took a much larger bite himself.
After she swallowed, Sharon asked, “You had a girlfriend? I don’t remember ever seeing you with anyone.”
“That was a few years ago.”
“Like before you came to Edgewater Industries?”
“Yes.”
She stared at him, dumbfounded. “That was six years ago, Knox.”
“Yes, about that long ago.”
“You haven’t been with anyone in six years?”
“No. I’m particular about who I sleep with. When my Little girl decided she needed something other than our relationship, I chose to wait until I found the one I needed in my life. Drawn to one I knew I couldn’t have, I waited,” Knox answered as he forked another small bite for her. When he lifted it to her lips, Sharon brushed it away. She stared at him in amazement.
“You’re not talking about me, are you?”
“Yes.”
“But I was happily married and had a Daddy. You could have been alone forever.”
“Alone forever is better than being together with the wrong person,” he answered gently, lifting the fork to her lips again.
“Knox. I don’t know what to say.”
“Eat, Roni. There’s nothing you need to say. This was my decision. Not yours. Had Roger lived a long, full life, I would have faced a tough decision. You would have never known that I knew you were mine.”
Sharon brushed away the fork once again. This time, she impulsively pressed a kiss to Knox’s lips. Immediately, he responded. Heat flared between them as Knox took control of the light touch and deepened it into a scorching exchange.
When he released her lips, Sharon leaned back, breathless. “Wow.”
“Just wait,” he answered with a simple confidence she couldn’t question.
There was no doubt in Sharon’s mind that he would knock her socks off in bed. She squeezed her legs together, feeling herself become wet at that thought. It had been a long time for her as well. Roger had shown Sharon what a sensuous creature she was. Instantly, she understood.
“It’s only this good with the right person, isn’t it?”
